Reasons to Explore Kangaroo Island

If the name itself wasn’t enough to book a ferry trip to Kangaroo Island or KI, as the locals call it, here are some compelling reasons why you should be packing to Kangaroo Island for your next wilderness experience.

Sea lions are one of the key attractions of the island, and you can watch them frolicking in their natural environment at the Sea Bay Conservation Park.  Admiral’s Arch at Cape du Couedic offers a gorgeous backdrop for some ever memorable photographs. Get your camera ready to capture the Fur Seals swimming and sunning themselves on the rocks perched over the sea.

Where Animals Rule

Animals are everywhere on Kangaroo Island, also sometimes described as a veritable, open zoo without fences, due to its rich flora and fauna, and Australia’s native wildlife. But if you prefer the animals to be roped off for your convenience, then head to Parndana National Park where you can hand-feed kangaroos and koalas, and stroll through their aviary.

Live the Wilderness

The dolphins don’t mind the curious swimmers like you getting up close and personal with them. The waters off Kangaroo Island are excellent for snorkeling and cruising. Kayak in the calm and meandering Harriet River for a few kilometers to experience the positivity of the region’s wilderness, teeming with a variety of exotic bird species.

It’s a Destination for all Seasons

Kangaroo Island is a year-round destination where you won’t have to bout the crowd for a spot on the gorgeous beaches or get a glimpse of kookaburras and echidnas. And if you don’t see them in the wild on KI, then you just weren’t looking! Winters could be a bit chilly but then you have the great chance to see the whales swimming off the coast.
