As soon as there is mention of Kangaroo Island, its vast bush land, native wildlife, white sand dunes, water sports, conservation parks and spectacular seascapes. It’s no surprise that Kangaroo Island has become one of the top tourist destinations in South Australia.
Kangaroo Island is a magical place, where the outback meets the surf and all the fun things to do in the middle. When you arrive by Ferry to Kangaroo Island you will dock in Penneshaw. This is one of the built up towns, with great cafes, eateries and a great swimming beach. If you choose to stay in Penneshaw, we recommend the Seafront Hotel or the many private accommodations overlooking the bay, most are walking distance from the Kangaroo Island Connect Ferry. Once you have explored Penneshaw and got a good nights rest, its now time to collect you Hire Car.
Once you have collected your Hire Car from our friendly staff, take it slow and explore every inch of this magical Island, loved by many. Pennington Bay, Vivonne Bay and Parndana are all great places to visit on your way down to Flinders Chase National Park. Once here we recommend stopping into the Visitor Information Centre, so you can begin to explore. You will need to register and pay for entry. If time permits we suggest staying a night down the Western End of the Island at the Hanson Bay Cabins, or the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat. This will allow you all the time you need to explore the wildlife, Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch.
If seclusion is not what you are after, take a 1.5 hour drive to the main township called Kingscote, on your way stopping to taste wine at The Island Estate Winery, or the Kangaroo Island Spirits Distillery. There are so many local farmers and businesses on the Island you can get lost in the food and wine for days.
Once your trip comes to an end you will need to drive back into Penneshaw to board the Ferry back to Cape Jervis (Mainland).
